Annual shearing will promote a denser branching structure and increase flower production. Water as needed the first year to get your plant established; once established, if it receives too much water, it will likely need pruning to maintain a nice shape. It reseeds readily - deadhead and pull seedlings if you don’t want the plants to naturalize.
